Lieberman was the foremost Jewish person in 2000 to get a major party’s US presidential ticket and was AI Gore’s Democratic running mate that year. Following the death news, Mr. Gore shared his condolences to the family and said he was “profoundly sad” at the news. “It was an honor to participate with him (Leiberman) on the campaign trail,” Mr. Gore further added. “I will forever be grateful for his efforts in building a better future for the county,” he continued.
“Senator Leiberman’s love for God, family, and the country endured throughout his service period in the public sector,” one of his family members said in a statement.
Lieberman served as a US Senator from 1989 to 2013. He was a longtime politician, who was also a powerful legislator. Often, his support was sought after for the betterment of the country. He was a man of his word and had broken from his party ranks on several issues, the major one being America’s opposition to the Iraq war.
Lately, Leiberman began to be known as the founding chairman of No Labels, a centrist political group that operates aiming to establish a third-party presidential ticket for the upcoming general election in 2024. He bagged his final term in office as an independent almost two decades ago.
“Mr. Lieberman was often referred to as a singular figure in the American public sector who constantly put his country before his party,” a rep for No Labels said in a statement.
Last week, in an interview published on Bloomberg TV, Mr.Leiberman shed light on the words of Thomas Jefferson, the American statesman, architect, diplomat, and lawyer, who said that America would require a “little political rebellion” very frequently, adding that it was important in politics as the “storms in the natural world.”
Mr. Leriberman continued by asking in a firm voice “Do we need a good storm and a political rebellion now?” This was not the first time he shared a heated response to other politicians.

Senator Leiberman was born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1942 and he was quick to get into the political world. He worked his way through state politics before launching himself as a US Senator in 1989.
During his career, Mr. Lieberman was one of the most respected and prominent Jewish politicians who exercised his faith openly before the world. His presidential run with Mr. Gore was a political milestone for Jewish Americans.
As a Democrat, Mr. Leiberman was never hesitant to cross party lines. Indeed, he developed a unique reputation in Washington for doing so, as well as for simply crossing members of his party. Throughout his career, he had also backed several progressive policies including the repeal of the Pentagon’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy which blocked LGBTQ people serving in the military openly.
