The actor Michael Stuhlbarg, who will appear in the premiere of the Broadway play Patriots, was attacked on Sunday evening.
A representative for the production stated that actor Michael Stuhlbarg, who was attacked on Sunday night outside Central Park, will appear in the Broadway premiere of Patriots on Monday. Stuhlbarg was reportedly struck in the back of the neck by a man who hurled a rock at him while he was strolling in Central Park. The individual, subsequently identified as Xavier Israel, was pursued out of the park by Stuhlbarg. Stuhlbarg reportedly refused medical assistance, and Israel was placed under arrest and accused of assault.
The Attack On Michael Stuhlbarg
The 27-year-old Xavier Israel allegedly attacked Michael on Sunday at 8 p.m. when he was walking near East 90th and East Drive. Israel abrasively struck Michael in the back of his neck with a rock. According to police and sources, homeless Israel has been detained before for two assaults and an attempted robbery that happened in January 2022. At the time of the attack, Israel was on parole for the attempted robbery. The actor chased Israel down the block after he hurled the rock at Stuhlbarg.
Xavier Israel was taken into custody right away by police waiting outside the Russian Consulate on East 91st Street. A witness told the police that they saw Israel picking up the rock and tossing it at people. The police accused him of assault. On Monday, he was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court. Witnesses mentioned that Israel had a lengthy rap, and he assaulted random civilians at Central Park.
The police shared that Michael denied medical attention. He told the police that he felt fine and would appear in the Broadway play. In a recent statement, the entire “Patriots” company supports Mr. Stuhlbarg, as he informed her that she was fine. They also added that they were waiting to witness him perform on stage.
Michael was spotted in public, leaving his Upper West Side apartment Monday morning before the play. The actor, spotted in an all-black look, carried two bags as he walked out of the place without commenting.
Are There More Charges Against Xavier Israel?
The law enforcement sources said that Israel was caught on the surveillance camera beating and stealing the wallet of a Samaritan who tried to help Israel by giving him his coat on a chilly January morning. Later, he was arrested for pickpocketing $1500 from a stranger. This was his second attack in a week, as he tried to harm someone who tried to help him. Israel has also pummeled a 49-year-old woman who tried to offer him help. After this incident, he was arrested, charged, and released on a desk appearance ticket. According to sources, Israel allegedly assaulted a man and a woman on January 2 inside Central Park. He is charged with hitting the 18-year-olds at random when they were sitting on a rock in the green area.
