Buckingham Palace officials announced on Tuesday that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will attend an Easter service in the chapel at Windsor Castle on Sunday. This will be the king’s first significant public appearance since he learned of a cancer diagnosis in February. According to officials, Charles and Camilla will be joined at St. George’s Chapel by the royalties. It is anticipated to be a smaller-than-normal event. It is not anticipated that Prince William and Kate, the Princess of Wales, will be present at the event, as she revealed last week that she is receiving cancer treatment.
Charles’ Cancer Diagnosis
King Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February as he underwent a benign prostate enlargement procedure at the London Clinic. The doctors advised him to postpone his public-facing duties as he was advised to undergo a series of regular treatments.
Not long after sharing about the cancer diagnosis, King Charles revealed how much it had affected him emotionally. While he met Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, King shared his recent emotional toll. When Rishi Sunak complimented Charles, he joked that everything was done by mirrors. But Sunak insisted that the whole country was behind him.
Charles expressed his heartfelt thanks to the supporters, as he received many wonderful messages and cards that made him emotional. Later, in an Instagram post, Charles wrote that the people who have been affected by cancer would understand the importance of such kind words, as they are the greatest comfort and encouragement.
Recently, Peter Philips, a royal family member, shared that King Charles’ recovery process is taking a bit longer than anticipated, creating room for frustration. He shared that he doubts King is largely frustrated as he cannot do whatever he wants to do.
Just over a month following King Charles’s declaration, the Princess of Wales revealed that she, too, had received a cancer diagnosis and was presently receiving prophylactic chemotherapy.
After the monarchy’s double cancer scare, the Queen became the most senior royal to resume public engagements when she presided over an event honoring the power of reading. The Queen hosted an evening gathering at Clarence House to commemorate the launch of fresh research that her literary initiative, Queen’s Reading Room, had commissioned.
Royals Battling With Cancer
On January 16, Kate Middleton underwent stomach surgery to address an undisclosed illness which was then confirmed to be non-cancerous. She hadn’t been spotted in public since Christmas Day at that point. The initial statement provided little further information other than emphasizing that her ailment was not cancerous.
However, recently, Catherine disclosed in a video message that additional testing conducted following her surgery indicated that “cancer had been present.” She revealed that she had been receiving prophylactic chemotherapy at the recommendation of her medical staff. In her recent statement, Kate shared that the news shocked her and her family. She also shared that they were trying to manage the situation privately for the sake of their young family.
It was tough for Kate, as she had to recover from the major surgery to start her treatments. But she mentioned that the most difficult thing was to explain everything to their three children in a way that was appropriate to their age and to reassure them that she would be okay. Kensington Palace reports that although the Princess’s medical status is not completely shared, she is optimistic about her full recovery.
