Patricia Richardson shares that the Home Improvement reboot will not happen as mentioned by Tom Allen.
It has been far more frequent in recent years for television programs from the past to reappear with brand-new episodes. Tim Allen has alluded to the possibility that Home Improvement would be the next iconic comedy to have a revival on several occasions, as all the stars were ready to be on board. However, Patricia Richardson said this is untrue and that she has no desire to play Allen’s Jill Taylor, Tim Taylor’s wife, again. On the Back to the Best podcast, she clarified that she never discussed the revival with Allen and that Jonathan Taylor Thomas shared her confusion.
Richardson’s Comments On Revival Teases
When the interviewer asked if she was ready for a comeback, Richardson’s answer was a straight no. Further, she added that this might be the reason why Allen was planning to do another show that was similar to Jungle 2 Jungle and many other movies he had done where he lost his kid and had to get his kid back. Richardson continued that she had heard him on social media and other platforms where he used to talk about the star’s interest in being on board the “Home Improvement” reunion.
She added that Allen had not asked her or Jonathan (Taylor Thomas) about the reunion. She finds it weird as he talks about the reunion, claiming that all the cast members are ready for it without discussing it with them. Also, she called out Allen, saying he was lying to people and telling them she was ready for the reunion when she knew nothing about it.
Is Home Improvement Worth Doing?
On the Back to the Best podcast, Richardson mentioned that the “Home Improvement” was not worth doing now. She brought up Zachery Ty Bryan’s recent legal issues, indicating that a return would not be considered for him. Furthermore, it doesn’t appear that the other former kid stars of the program would be interested in performing again. The fact that actor Earl Hindman passed away in 2003 seems to cement the deal for Richardson because it would take Wilson out of the picture as well. Richardson doesn’t even think it would be worth it with what’s left.
Richardson said that she doesn’t want to do a revival of the TV series. She said that Zach (Ty Byron), who played the eldest son’s character, was a felon now, and Taran (Noah Smith), the youngest son, hasn’t acted since the series ended. Jonathan was not interested in acting, as he was more into directing and writing. Then, Richardson talked about the late Earl and said that if they were trying to revive the show, they would have only two kids. Also, she mentioned that the show would not be the same anymore.
Richardson garnered two Golden Globe Award nominations and five Emmy Award nominations for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series while she was a cast member of Home Improvement. Despite her distaste for a relaunch and her disapproval of Allen, Richardson lavished her former co-star with accolades the previous year.

ABC broadcast Home Improvement for eight seasons, totaling 204 episodes, between September 1991 and May 1999. It received seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations during its run, including two for Outstanding Comedy Series, four for Outstanding Lead Actress (Richardson), and one for Outstanding Lead Actor (Allen).
When a former interviewer asked Tim Allen about the revival of Home Improvement, he said he always thought about it as he was in contact with all the cast members. But he also shared his doubts about the relevance of a revival and mentioned that he would like it to be a one-hour movie.
