In a recent interview, Ryan Gosling’s wife Eva Mendes explained why she left her acting career after giving birth to their girls.
Earlier this week, the ‘Ghost Rider’ star made a rare appearance on the Today Show where she revealed why she gave up on acting after having children with her husband, Ryan Gosling. On the show, she openly talked about her life after marriage, especially after becoming a mother. The former actress gave up on acting after the birth of their two daughters.
Eva Mendes Chose Motherhood Over Her Acting Career
According to Eva Mendes, choosing her acting career over motherhood was a no-brainer as the 50-year-old has already embraced her role as a mother of two sweet daughters with her long-term beau, Gosling.
During the interview, Mendes shed light on her joy in prioritizing family over her career. “I would be so lucky if could have this time with my daughters,” she said. One of the major reasons behind the decision was that her profession would demand traveling very often. “Acting takes you on different locations, (probably) away from my children,” she added.
Though Mendes has stepped back from her successful acting career, she is still leading a productive life away from the film sets. As of now, her focus is firm on her children, Amada Lee, 7, and, Asmalda Amada, 9.
Talking about her husband Gosling, 43, Mendes said that he was continuing to work and that the decision for her to be a stay-at-mom came mutually. “It was almost like a non-verbal agreement,” she recalled adding, “We both are going to work, it is just that I am going to work here (from home).” Mendes further added that Gosling “happens to be good at his job. He does his part and he came home.”
The pair kicked off their journey together from the set of The Place Beyond the Pines almost a decade ago. Ever since, the two share a deep respect for each other’s careers, particularly Mendes, who is in awe of her husband’s acting skills. “I have never experienced anything like that,” she said referring to Gosling’s acting talents.
Though Mendes does not accompany her husband on every red-carpet event, she often displays her support on social media after every award season, especially following the release of Barbie. During his performance at the 96th Academy Awards, the mom of two shared a candid moment from the rehearsals to her Instagram Stories, which she captioned “Siempre con mi hombre. And, following his memorable ‘I’m Just Ken” performance, she cheekily wrote,” You took Ken all the way to the Oscars. Now, get back home, we need to put the children to bed.”
Reportedly, Ryan and Eva no longer live in Los Angeles. Despite being the A-listers of Holywood, the couple reportedly wants to provide a quiet childhood for their kids. The two have been together since 2011, and together they welcomed their daughters in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

According to an insider, their daughters are most important to them and everything else comes second. The source further added that Gosling and Mendes took their girls away from Hollywood because they did not want their daughters to grow up around other star kids. “Eva and Ryan are simply amazing. It is admirable how the two have been able to create balance and boundaries. They care so much about each other as well as their girls,” the source remarked.
