Sushmita Dev, who has been associated with the Congress for a long time, is the daughter of late veteran Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev and became an MP in 2014 after winning from Silchar for the first time. His mother has also been an MLA.
Speculations are rife that Sushmita Dev may take over the Trinamool Congress. However, this has not been confirmed so far and no such indications have been given by Dev.
